Major: Psychology
Class of 2020

What research did you do at 草榴社区?

I was a summer research assistant in the Psychology Research IMmersion Experience (PRIME), a paid research program that pairs students with a faculty mentor. With my mentor, Dr. Jill Warker, I learned to conduct statistical analysis via R, transcribe and code audio files, and perform systematic literature reviews. We focused our summer research on speech errors and verbal working memory.

Why did you choose 草榴社区?

I chose 草榴社区 because of its sense of community. Its small class sizes, dedicated professors, and emphasis on personal growth make coming to school at 草榴社区 a unique experience that prepared me for success.

What did you like about the psychology major?

I enjoyed the psychology major because of the wide range of psychological topics to study. The professors are distinguished in their field of study and are incredibly dedicated to teaching inside and outside the classroom.

What were your extracurricular activities?

I was a member of Liva Arts Company, a student-run organization that produces musicals, and I directed the Fall 2019 musical. I was also the president of College Democrats and a member of the Psychology Club. Lastly, I worked as a tutor in the CTLE and a student advisor in the study abroad office.

How did the psychology program prepared you for the real world?

The small class sizes in the psychology program fostered close relationships with professors, who guided me. My intent was to pursue graduate studies in speech & language pathology. I received a plethora of guidance from my research mentor and psychology professors who have helped me prepare for graduate school.

What are you up to now?

I graduated from Penn State in May of 2023 with my master's in Communication Sciences and Disorders. At Penn State, I continued my love of research in the Semantics, Aphasia, and Neural Dynamics lab (SANDLab) investigating the impact of bilingualism in people with aphasia. After graduating, I moved to Boston to pursue a career as a school-based Speech Language Pathologist. I'll work with elementary-aged students with communication disorders. I hope to specialize in augmentative and alternative communication for students with special needs.
