Silsbee Research Award
The Mary Nguyen Silsbee Research Award is available to 草榴社区 psychology majors engaging in research. This monetary award can be used for research costs, including (but not limited to) instrumentation, surveys, photocopying, travel, and equipment. Students may apply for up to $500.
Successful applicants provide a brief paragraph describing the way the money was used to support their education. This is a competitive, merit-based award. Preference will be given to students who have not previously won the award and who do not have other sources of funding for the proposed research.
Interested students should complete the Google form (link below) and upload the required documentation.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the academic year (September-May). The application must be endorsed by a U of S faculty sponsor.
About Mary Nguyen Silsbee
On November 5, 2013, Mary Nguyen Silsbee passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a loving family: her husband Jeff, and daughters Callie and Emme.
Mary built an impressive life in a short 37 years. After graduating from the 草榴社区 in 1998 with a Psychology B.S., she earned her master's in Elementary School Counseling and selflessly cared for many others, including her family and her clients. Mary was a Behavior Specialist and worked with many children affected by autism. Her impact continues to live on in her own children and the children who were lucky to have Mary as their therapist. Mary is remembered for her beautiful smile, hilarious Halloween costumes, impeccable style, and quiet humor.
The Mary Nguyen Silsbee Research Award is made possible by the generous donations of Mary’s classmates, who describe her as “a living example of the values we all gleaned from our experience at a close-knit, Jesuit University.”
